The funeral will be early afternoon on Thursday. That means we'll have to leave for Indiana on Wednesday afternoon.

Grandma had taken care of most of the funeral arrangements. She is having it at the local funeral home, which we thought was strange given how important church was to her.

I thought funerals were usually held in the evening, but more and more, they are taking place in the daytime, especially for the elderly, who don't like to go out at night. And there is the graveside service which would not be nice at night in January.

My aunt says she can't get any work done because the phone is ringing off the hook. People are calling her to wish their condolences and see how she's doing. Even people she's talked to already. My dad says he hasn't gotten one single call.

My aunt doesn't want to go through her mother's posessions yet. She wants to wait a month or two. Partly because she doesn't want to deal with it, and (I think) partly because my cousin just had a baby and can't make it up for the funeral. I hope the apartment building doesn't have a problem with that. They might have a waiting list. It's an apartment complex for the elderly, so they may want to get somebody else in, if they don't have any other vacant apartments.

I'm sorry to hear about your great-grandmother.

Actually, I'm more worried about the driving than usual, since it would be particularly poor timing to get in an accident on the way to a funeral.
