This was a very good weekend.

Friday night we hung around Cyn's. Cleaned a little. Took Heather and Sebastian with us to dinner. Michael went to Prom, so were awake all night waiting for him. He got home at 2:30, but we still didn't sleep well after that.

Saturday, we cleaned in preparation for Heather's party. she cleaned the most, of couirse, and Cyn did quite a bit as well. I guess that means I didn't do all that much. Heather's party was nice, from what I saw. Not as meany people as she had hoped, but a nice group. Cyn and I went to the Battlestar Cadillactica Cd release party. It's my friend's band, and it's always nice to talk with him. And the band is good. We left there at 1:00 AM, reeking of cigarette smoke.

On Sunday we came back to my place, didn't get a whole lot of work done :-), and went to a friend's hoouse for a get-together with some scouting friends. We had a backyard campfire and cooked s'mores. We came home smelling of smoke.

Today, I cleaned my sunporch. Not completely done, but it's very nice to have gotten that much taken care of. The weather was finally nice enough that we could hang laundry outside. After supper, we baked an apple pie. It was my mom's recipe, where it is baked in a paper bag. I saw her bake it many times, and the bag never burned. Mine did. I opened the oven and there were little lines of glowing orange crawling along the bag. We were able to vent the smoke out, but the place smells like burning paper. The pie was very good, though. It was my first try at making pie crust, too.

Maybe you had the oven too high, the bag was open or the pie was too dry? You shouldn't have to wet the bag although you could. Usually the steam from the pie keeps the bag moist enough to prevent burning. Maybe your rack was too close to the elements? A lot of things it could be. Better luck next time!

I've heard of people oiling bags but she never did anything to hers.

I think it was because it was an electric oven. With the heating elements, it's more radiant heat than circulating hot air like in a gas oven. I asked my mom and she said this happened to a friend of hers who used an electric oven. It was fairly close to the bottom element, but that was to keepit away from the top element.

You know that could be it. The last time I did it we had this huge oven, it was electric but it was pretty large. The center rack was a good 15 inches or so from the elements. I always put the pie in the middle of the stove. The oven I have now is so much smaller that I can only fit a good sized chicken and a small pan of sweet potatos in it compared to a turkey and six custard pies like the old one.
