British media reports that Prime Minister Tony Blair's government is working behind the scenes on a compromise amendment to the U.S.-backed resolution on Iraq. The amendment would give Iraq a little more time and would set a deadline.

What sort of deadline? A deadline for compliance with inspectors. Aside from the fact that he may be hiding weapons, how is he not complying now?

Canada proposed giving Iraq a deadline of March 30th to comply however (Mexico and Chili supported such), but, U.S. wouldn't agree. I'm really wondering what certain politicians agendas are. Seems odd.

Comply with what, exactly?

I think some countries believe he is still hiding weapons. Even if he did come up with a boatload for the inspectors to destroy, I suspect it wouldn't be enough. Some countries want war, and to remove Saddam from power.

It's hard to avoid the feeling that the more weapons that they can get Saddam to destroy in the meantime, the easier the invasion will be when it comes.
