To what extent are you (Americans) on holiday today? Are your schools closed? Banks? What else? Are you off work? Do you work for a federal institution? What about Presidents' Day - same story?

Not much closes down around here. A temporary Wisconsin resident I know, calls this "The Socialist State of Wisconsin."

My kids aren't in school today and I think there's no mail, just like Columbus Day. Probably the bank is closed too.

my place of work considers this a holiday.. but only the salaried workers get off and the hourly workers must work but they get paid for it as though it's a holiday. however, we are not off for presidents day.

where my boyfriends father works..only black people get off today and if they work, they get paid holiday pay. the white people must work and do not get holiday pay.

basing holiday pay on a person's race is inappropriate.....

That sounds like the employer didn't want to give anybody off, but the blacks made a stink about it. The whites didn't, so it figured it could get away with making them work. What surprises me even more, is that they get holiday pay for the day. Even if it is a federal holiday.

I am off from school but I have to work.

My boss is black, but his philosophy has always been that Dr. King would want us to be working. :P

Washington state: no school, no bank, no mail. I've been 'off work' for over a year now, Kev, haha. Presidents' Day out here, the kids get a 4-day, and, yep, it's the same story for banks, postal, except they only get the one extra day. Maybe by Prez Day, I won't be off work.

oh, and I'm lumping all Federal together with mail. they follow the same schedule. and the State also observes. not too sure about the County and City.

do socialists wear those cheesehead things?

two of three neighbors are off work today. I am off, but I have mondays off. The banks are all closed, and the library, but the pharmacy was open and that's all I care about.
