A coworker tells me that when he was a kid, in school the class would stand and face east for a minute of silence, at 11:11 on November 11th. That was back when they still called it Armistice Day.

We have Memorial Day to remember the people who gave their lives for our country, but on Veterans Day we remember all the people who served their country, and the sacrifices they made.

We stood and faced the east, also? Why east? I never remember having it explained. But ours was at 11:00. Before the digital age, maybe.

A different subject--related only by 11/11. Whenever I hear that combination of numbers I think of the National Office of the IRS at 1111 Constitution Ave. It could be 11 minutes after 11 and I think, "Oh, 1111 Constitution". How brain washed is that? Of course, I still remember that 740 N. Rush Street was the address for the Methodist Publishing House in Chicago when I was a teenager and very much involved in the Methodist Church.

And a couple weeks ago when someone asked me my own address, I couldn't remember!
