How come I can attach a jpeg file to an outgoing e-mail, and when it gets to the other end it the picture is displayed on the e-mail? Now I can't make it back into a file to upload to my website. This does me no good.

i think when you embed it in the text of the message it is in a different format. you have to right click and send it to your browser and then save as. pain in the neck. easier to just attack the file normally and open it when you get it.

Uh... I don't follow you.

I attached the jpeg file to my e-mail at home last night. I sent it to myself here at work (Lotus Notes, not webmail). When I opened the e-mail it was embedded. I forwarded it to Cyn and when she opened it, it was again an attachment. But it was a bmp and not a jpeg.

if you right clicked on the embedded version (assuming you are on a pc), one of the options is send to browser. that opens the image like a web page, which you can then save as a bmp. your image software should let you convert it to a jpeg using save as.

all that is a pain in the neck, and i only do it when someone else sends me something. what you need to do is not embed it to begin with. i don't know what your options are, but some programs have separate choices to attach images and files. choose the file one in that case. or, it could be that your email at work is set up to automatically open images. change the settings in that case. i have no idea why it chooses to use bmp format, that happens to me too.

You want to get the picture out of Notes mail and save it as a file?

:: struggles to remember how to use Notes ::

If you right click the picture and get a "detach" option, that should do it. Otherwise, save the whole e-mail to your C drive and it should spit out the pic separately.

Notes is a bit wierd.

No right click "detach" option.

I can't figure out how to save the e-mail in an e-mail form. It just wants to do it as tiff or text formats.

No such right click option.

I did get the e-mail detached as a tiff, and then saved it as a jpeg using sucky MS Photoeditor, but the image is posterizedtoo much.

Finally some bandwidth opened up at my Geocities site, and I was able to save it directly from there.

Thanks for your help.

sorry it didn't help. i assume the painting arrived safely?

Oh yes! It looks great. Thanks.

It's funny how small a round painting can be in comparison to a rectangular one of the same overall width. I had to hang it in a different place than I had planned. Still looks great though. Maybe better. It's closer to traffic, so people can see it more closely. :-)

The CD sounds good too. More later. :-)

Hmm. I have a Notes client on my laptop, but it's at home, so I can't play.

Notes can give you web access to your mail - do you have that? Try pointing your browser at http://YourNotesServer/ or https://YourNotesServer/
If that works, it'll have to give you the picture in a save-able format.

Another possibility: BenoitHQ is Mr. Notes - you could ask him.

I might be able to manage that, but it's a lot of work. I did mange to get the picture I need, though.

Thanks for your help. It's good for future reference. :-)

hmmmmm, never had that happen before, but more than likely, i use a different OS and associated software than you do......

isn't it interesting how we constantly demand more and more out of these boxes?........P

I used Notes for years. Funny how quickly I've forgotten.

i particularly like that painting. it has a lot of illusory depth. i had it hanging in my living room for a long time.

It grabbed my attention the first time I saw it online. I'm anxious to see it in person tonight!

I don't want more. I want less!

I want to attach a file to an e-mail, and when it arrives at the other end, I want to be able to detach that file. I don' twant strange things to happen to it in between.
