Now I'm remembering the fright I felt when it looked like Bush would win the election.

One of my Democratic senators voted to approve the nomination. Russ Feingold has a record of splitting form party lines. I applaud him for that, to an extent. He said that a nominee has never been turned down on purely ideological grounds before, and that this was not the place for partisan politics. He's right on that count, but Ashcroft's record indicates that he will be quite happy to interpret the law the way he sees fit. I can't help but get the feeling he's eager to get a chance to interpret the law the way the right wing intends. That is, the way the bible intends.
