I forgot my card today and had to knock to get in the building. The HR director was standing right there talking to her subordinate who was troubled to reach over and press a button to let me in. She was not happy with me. She told me in no uncertain terms that I was wrong in having forgotten it. She said I do this all the time - which is once a month as far as she is concerned.
I got news for you, lady. There is no amount of harping that is going to make me remember it. My memory sucks and that is all there is to it. Sometimes when I forget the card and have to go back home for it, and I think, "dammit, this is it. I am not going to forget this again." Even forcing myself to drive back home and get it, isnt enough impetus to remember two days later. I thank myself every day when I walk in that door and find my card in my pocket. Though I may not look it, I *am* angry with myself for forgetting, so don't assume I am nonchalant about it.
In other words, kiss my ass.

Date: 2002-04-05 10:18 am (UTC)From:When I rode the CTA every day and kept around $20.00 on my transit pass, I got into the habit of passing through the turnstile and then sticking it in my wallet as I walked up the stairs. I got so that I did it so automatically that I couldn't recall having done it, if that makes any sense. It's the only way I can remember anything important that I don't want to lose or walk out the door without.
