I forgot my card today and had to knock to get in the building. The HR director was standing right there talking to her subordinate who was troubled to reach over and press a button to let me in. She was not happy with me. She told me in no uncertain terms that I was wrong in having forgotten it. She said I do this all the time - which is once a month as far as she is concerned.

I got news for you, lady. There is no amount of harping that is going to make me remember it. My memory sucks and that is all there is to it. Sometimes when I forget the card and have to go back home for it, and I think, "dammit, this is it. I am not going to forget this again." Even forcing myself to drive back home and get it, isnt enough impetus to remember two days later. I thank myself every day when I walk in that door and find my card in my pocket. Though I may not look it, I *am* angry with myself for forgetting, so don't assume I am nonchalant about it.

In other words, kiss my ass.

When I leave the house, I ask myself (sometimes, if I remember) if I have my three things with me - lunch, wallet, key (I don't bother checking if I have my keys because I can't leave without them). As soon as I discover that one of them is missing, I go back and get it, and then I leave - if I've missed two things, I won't realize it.
You'll probably hate this idea, but I bet it would work. Maybe you could start carrying a briefcase to work. (Yeah, I know you'd feel like a dork) It doesn't have to have anything in it but your card....yet, it's too big to misplace. Swipe your card, drop it in your briefcase. Every morning, grab the briefcase on your way to work.

The only drawback to this that I can see, is when you leave the office and realize you left your briefcase sitting on the floor by your desk....and the door just locked behind you. *sigh* OK, so maybe that's not a good idea either...

Hmm..how about wearing it around your neck or somehow attach it to your car keys?

I do think the person was a bit rude...for a friday even geesh!

Some people do wear them around their necks, but I'd still for get to put it on.

I couldn't deal with it on my keys.

Yeah, that rudeness was my whole problem with the incident. I've been dealing with my forgetfulness for many years.

In what part of my body should I get the implant, so that it will pass through the card reader? ;-)

I'd forget my head if it wasn't fastened on.

When I rode the CTA every day and kept around $20.00 on my transit pass, I got into the habit of passing through the turnstile and then sticking it in my wallet as I walked up the stairs. I got so that I did it so automatically that I couldn't recall having done it, if that makes any sense. It's the only way I can remember anything important that I don't want to lose or walk out the door without.

I like my wallet to be as thin as possible. Actually, I just carry my license and a credit card with some money wrapped around it. And I don't care to carry the key card around with me when I'm not going to work because I don't want to lose it.

Excuses, more or less.
