Senior American officials have been defending a document which reviews nuclear weapons options for the United States.
The document outlines scenarios in which nuclear weapons might be used against a number of countries.

Parts of the document - called the Nuclear Posture Review - were published in the Los Angeles Times. Secretary of State Colin Powell portrayed it as "sound.. conceptual planning" only, not a blueprint for any attack.

Okay. Let's assume that is true. I think a plan is necessary, if it comes to some sort of conflict. And they've always had such plans. What I have a problem with is that it is poor form to remind your enemies that you have this capability and are considering its use against them. That just reminds them to keep at their research and manufacturing.

Peace through superior firepower never lasts.

No, I hadn't heard that.

My point is really that this shouldn't have been advertised. Everybody knows everybody has weapons pointed at each other, but they only need a reminder like this to point more.

i think people need to be more aware of just how many weapons are out there and where they are pointed......too many people would rather just keep their heads in the sand and not know....

one of the best sites on the web, is the federation of american scientists......www.fas.org......to keep a handle on who has what where........
