Our Boy Scout troop had its Christmas party. We had a little presentation on one of our former scouts. When he joined the troop, he was the kid who was always off playing in the dirt. Dan had the worst case of homesickness we have ever seen. After a couple of years, he was elected senior patrol leader (the highest leadership position for a boy) by the rest of the boys, as a joke. He turned out to be one of our best leaders. He made Eagle. After he graduated college he went into the Peace Corps. Right now Dan is teaching mathematics at a school in Cameroon. His grad school is holding a place for him for next year (physics).

It’s a good feeling to know that I had such a direct impact on his life.
