Milwaukee Tool is hiring. I've heard of a lot of people getting hired there, and it's been happening (to my knowledge) several years. It shows no sign of slowing. I wasn't sure why. But when my friend came to help with the demolition of the cabinets, he had a cordless Sawzall. (Milwaukee invented the reciprocating saw.) So the next time I was in the hardware store, I looked at their tools.

Everything is cordless these days. So everyone is upgrading their tools. I was amazed at the change. Milwaukee is a very well respected brand. I have a Milwaukee router, and it's my absolute favorite power tool. I think I got it ten or fifteen years ago, and cordless drills were just about the only battery powered tools that were commonly available at the time. Now, you can get chainsaws and impact wrenches, and even tools that didn't exist fifteen years ago, like compact circular saws, and one-handed routers and reciprocating saws.

I use a corded string trimmer. It's kind of a pain dragging a 75-foot cord around the yard, so I looked, and Milwaukee has a cordless version. It's $300, though. I guess I can deal with the cord a while longer. The battery packs are a bit expensive but they fit all their tools, so once you get a few, you're good. And that builds brand loyalty...

So that explains why they're growing so fast. I had been contemplating a job there. Among other reasons, I thought maybe the drive there wouldn't be so bad. But I just learned their headquarters is relocating to downtown, two blocks from my current office!

The power went out for about ten minutes. That might be the longest time since we've been here, seventeen years. It took me almost that whole time to round up the flashlights and such.
