kitchen remodel 31
Sep. 24th, 2021 10:08 pmI talked to the cabinetmaker on Saturday, and he said he'd be over "midweek." That sounds like Wednesday or Thursday to me, so I figured Thursday. And when I asked him about time of day, he said "afternoon into evening." I spoke to him another day, I forget which, and asked him what day, and he said Thursday. He said he'd install the upper cabinets, and the drawers and shelves, but not the doors or drawer fronts.
Thursday at 4:30 I messaged him. He called me and asked if Friday noon was OK. Sure? He showed up at noon and got the cabinets installed and about half the shelves. No drawers. He's still talking about getting everything else done in the next few days.
It looks nice. Dark oak on the outside and maple-ish veneer on the inside. I noticed a lot of flaws, of course. Oh well.
After I got home from work, he came back and helped me move refrigerators. We brought the new fridge into the house, and took the old fridge to my mom's. And took her old fridge out to her garage. After moving them, it took me a while to set her "new" one up. Cindy got ours set up, and it's cooling down. We'll start moving things up from the basement fridge tomorrow morning.
Next steps:
Install the microwave.
Now that the uppers are in, I can measure for the tile, and get that on order. It should take a week to arrive. It would be nice if I had it next weekend.
Waiting for the rest of the cabinetry. Aside from the shelves, doors and drawers, there are kickplates and quarter-round floor molding, and crown molding.
I also need to replace some of the floor and door molding I removed.
The undercabinet lighting should arrive early next week.
An air gap for the dishwasher was surprisingly hard to find. We have one on order from Home Depot, so I'll be able to install the dishwasher after that.
Then it will be done!
