injuries?

You know that thing where someone describes an injury, and prefaces it with "guess who?" Like guess who fell down the stairs and broke their ankle? And they follow that with some variation of "me!" Apparently this is such a common thing, that when you preface the injury with "Trivia question" instead of a jaunty "guess who," they still think it was you!

My facebook post read: Trivia question - Tragic gardening accidents: Who accidentally severed his thumb when a garden gnome fell on it?

I learned an odd fact about a famous person, and decided to share it. I did this late at night. There was one reply, "Ouch. Severed.....like lost a thumb?" I simply replied that the doctors were able to reattach it. There were no more responses after a few more minutes, and I logged off.

The next comment from that guy, discovered in the morning, was "Did you really? How bad?" Then things like "Ouch! Just thinking about it makes me hurt. Get well soon." and "How bad is the nerve damage? I would be freaking out." and "Dude wtf!!!!! You’re typing, so you must be ok but.... agh!!!" Cindy had to do damage control before I got up. There were over a dozen comments by then, and even after that, there were still a few people that were tentatively wishing me well.

One person said "WTF!?! You? That sounds horrible. I hope it’s not as bad as it sounds." Then, when told it wasn't me, said "I thought so, but I read the comments. Originally I thought it was a pop quiz...lol" I'm sure they weren't the only one who didn't get worried until they saw the comments. Someone else said "now I don't feel bad for cracking up when I read it! 🤣"

Part of the problem is that my humor is very dry. I'm deadpan, even when I'm joking, so people never know when I'm joking. But I don't know why they don't just assume I'm joking, at all times.

Not long ago, Cindy asked a question about some goings-on at a workplace that wasn't hers. Several people's comments indicated they assumed it was her workplace. I don't know if they had forgotten that she said it wasn't hers, or just assumed she made that part up to cover her ass. But there are certain conventions that people assume are in play at all times. I hate those.

But I did get a good laugh out of the ruckus today!
