anniversary and birthday
May. 18th, 2019 11:31 pmWe were going to get a hotel room in Milwaukee for our anniversary, but by the time I got around to making reservations, they were all booked up around that time. I'm not sure what was going on. Maybe a convention. So we booked the room on my birthday.
Back in the fall I had one a prize in a photo contest, so I used that. We went out to dinner in the evening, at Pier 102. It's a mostly-seafood place. Nice, but not too expensive. We have a few bucks left on the gift card, so we'll have to stop back in there sometime, for a drink.
The other prize was "deluxe accommodations" at the Pfister or Hilton hotels. We chose the Hilton because we have stayed at the Pfister before (fourteen years ago, on our first anniversary). They're both kinda fancy places. There's a lot of brass in the Hilton lobby. So I signed up for the deluxe accommodations, and we got the Governor's Suite. I'm not sure how many of these fancy suites they have there, or what this one cost, but I saw that a couple suites there run $1000 and $1500. This one has a foyer (marble and mirror, plus an orchid), a living room (wood-paneling, hardwood floor, oriental rug, fake-but-fancy fireplaces, brass wall sconces, etc.), a kitchenette (fridge, microwave, sink, etc), a spacious bedroom with a walk-in closet, and a nice bathroom. We were on the 19th floor with nice views on three sides.
And I was contacted by someone at the hotel to ask if it was a special occasion, and there was a bottle of wine waiting for us.
So that was our anniversary. The next day we celebrated my birthday. We ordered breakfast in the room, and then walked to the Haggerty Art Museum, and then the Chudnow museum of Yesteryear. This Chudnow guy collected old stuff (most of it obtained when people threw stuff away of when stores went out of business). A large house is full of displays of these things, mostly from the twenties and thirties. After lunch we went to the Harley Davidson Museum.
When I got home, I went to upload my photos from my camera but the memory card got corrupted, so I lost all the photos from the vacation and the previous few days. Cindy took a lot of pictures, so I stole a few of hers.
