A friend posted this on Facebook. I'm putting it here for my own notes.
I just had a rude awakening. No WONDER people in red states hate Obamacare! So here's the deal -
We will be moving away from CA next year and are [looking at Georgia].
Oh yeah, about the rude awakening - After doing some very deep research into the situation, I have learned that if we move to GA then our health insurance options are atrocious to a ridiculous extent. For instance, I would have only one choice on the marketplace - a company called AmBetter (which has terrible reviews and doesn't cover any real doctors). In GA, I would not even be allowed to purchase private insurance outside of the marketplace! What insanity! This is so obviously a Republican ploy to make people hate Obamacare, and it worked. Here in CA we do not have such problems. I pay a reasonable rate for a good plan that covers everything I need. The system can work if the state agrees to work with it and not against it. GA won't even expand Medicaid, so if you're a poor adult, no matter your income, you are simply not getting healthcare. :(
Again, no wonder people in red states hate Obamacare. All they see of it is a broken ugly system that they are forced to pay into and get nothing out of. It sickens me that politicians are playing games with people's lives. And although I love Athens and want to move there to help bring about real political change, I am not sure if it is even possible with our reasonable healthcare needs.
November will be telling...I pray so much that people vote!
PS Do you love where you live and think I should move there? Let me know why and I'll look into it!
