pre-party weekend
Jul. 1st, 2018 09:07 pmNext Saturday we're having a big party. So I've spent lots of time in the yard with the aim of getting it perfect by then.
Last Wednesday I mowed, and Thursday I did the edging. I'll do it again this Wednesday, so hopefully it will have smoothed out a bit by Saturday. Friday night I did a little more yard work.
Saturday my project was to pull the weeds out from under the pine tree. There was tons of creeping Charlie, and the thistles were really tall. I was in the shade, but the temp was over 90°, and it felt like the humidity was too. I was dying by the time I was done with that. I had planned on spreading some mulch, but I spent the rest of the afternoon indoors.
Late in afternoon we went to a picnic for a coworker of Cyn's who is leaving town. I was worried because of the heat, but the park was right by the lake, where the temp was ten degrees cooler, and it was breezy too, so that was nice. We came home and had a late supper of ribs on the grill, the headed into town for the fireworks.
They launch them from the parking lot at the elementary school. But they're about ready to begin demolition of the building, so the lawn was taped off. We ended up sitting along the sidewalk nearby. We were basically sitting as close as you can get to the launch site, and there were only a few other families sitting in the area. As we set up our chairs, Cyn noticed rain falling in the distance, silhouetted against the bright sunset beyond. I didn't think there was rain in the forecast, but I checked the radar, and sure enough, there were storms headed for us. We kept seeing flashes from lightning throughout the show. The rain started during the grand finale, but stopped by the time the show ended and we got out chairs picked up. So we walked the quarter mile back to the car, and the rain started up as soon as we got moving.
Today I putzed around outside in the morning. Then I washed dishes and scrubbed much of the kitchen in the afternoon. Then I went to Costco with my mom to pick up a few things for the party, and check prices. She's in charge of the food for the party.
After supper I spent a couple of hours cleaning the garage. The outdoor temp was in the low 70's, but I was still sweating in the garage.
