My friend Steve and I went to Chicago on Saturday. He had never really been there. I parked under Milennium Park, so we took a quick look at the Bean, and walked through Pritzker Pavillion. He was impressed with all that. We intended to walk over to Navy Pier, but I'd forgotten how far away it was, so we took a cab the second half of the way there.
We saw the Rolling Stones Exhibitionism exhibit. It was basically a museum of their career. It was actually pretty cool. They had costumes from their entire career. Models and photos and layout sketches of their massive stage sets. Poster and album art, and details about how it was made or thought up. Info about recording. How they got started. Keith Richards diary entries and Mick's handwritten lyrics. Instruments the band used, including a whole room full of guitars. A 3D movie. A recreation of a recording studio. A recreation of Mick's and Keith's disgusting apartment when they first got together. Lots of really cool stuff. I think my favorite part was actually the costumes.

Then we took a cab back to my car, and drove to the parking garage that I had reserved. Then we walked 1.7 miles to Soldier Field for the U2 concert. We arrived in time to hear the last four songs of the Lumineers set. Then sat around for an hour. U2 came on a few minutes after 9:00, and ended about 11:00. We walked back to the car, and got out of downtown a few minutes after midnight. I got home just before 2:00.
The U2 show was great. It was the 30th anniversary of The Joshua Tree, so they played that all the way through in the middle of the show. Loved it. I love all the songs on that album (except I wouldn't miss "With or Without You"), so that was awesome. We had good seats - front row of the upper deck, kind of alongside the stage, but far back enough that we could see the video.
