Obviously, not every religious person's convictions are based on fear, and will therefore crumble when you give up your belief, but I'm sure there are a lot of people who feel that way.
This echoes what the criminology field has documented for more than a century — the unaffiliated and the nonreligious engage in far fewer crimes.
