It's been very cold the last couple of days. Below zero at night, single digits in the daytime. Yesterday it was -2°F when I went to work, which was several degrees warmer than when Cyn went to work. It was around 10° all day, but the wind picked up in the evening. We're supposed to have a high of zero tomorrow.
When it gets below zero, our garage door opener stops working. That's really a pain. We had to disconnect it from the opener, and move it manually, but only from the inside, since there's no handle on the outside, and the last few inches are difficult because of how the opener arm is attached. And so after you close it, you have to go back in the house, and come out the front door.
A couple of years ago, we had our garage door replaced. The guy who installed it showed me how to keep it lubricated by spraying silicone in various places. Just today it occurred to me that maybe it would help to spray it in the track of the opener itself. Like, duh! So I did. I reconnected the opener and hit the button. I was amazed at how quietly it moved. I should have been doing that ten years ago! The real test will be tomorrow, when it's back below zero.
When I was getting the silicone spray can off the shelf in the garage, I heard a metallic sound, that I thought was a vent way overhead. Then I realized it was nearby. I looked up and there was a mouse staring at me. It wandered around, trying to stay out of sight but failing. I contemplated grabbing it, since I had my gloves on, but I couldn't figure out anything to do with it, especially since the garage door was still closed. So I left it. It's very likely been in the basement.
So then I went shoveling. We got snow last night, which was surprising, since it was so cold. But it was light and fluffy, and the wind was strong, so I just tossed it in the air, and the wind took it away. It was so cold and windy, though, that I didn't even do half the driveway.
