Christmas

I was off work all last week. Monday I went to lunch with the department. Tuesday, went to Chicago for the Bowie exhibit, and was forgetful in the evening, including forgetting to drop my car off for a checkup. I had to reschedule, and now won't have that done until after our trip to Indiana in a few days.

Mike and Jill came on the 24th, and my dad and stepmom came to visit with them.

On Christmas day we took Mike and Jill to Melissa's home, where we met the entire rest of the family, John, Devonne, Ian & Sarah, Greg & Heather. One of John's brothers came by as well. Then we brought the kids back to our house to exchange gifts. Then they went to their dad's family's get-together, and Cindy and I went to my mom's.

The day after Christmas, we were lazy. I didn't do much besides read. Mike, Jill and Heather went out to eat and spend some time together, leaving Eva with us for a couple of hours. Their flight back to NY was cancelled and they ended up with an earlier flight so they rushed home, picked up their stuff and left.

Cyn was sick all week. She started feeling cruddy on Sunday, and got a little worse each day until Saturday. That was the day of the Christmas get-together with my dad and stepmom, so she stayed home. That thing gets bigger each year. At one time, the siblings were all having kids, so it started to get crazy. Now the grandkids are starting to bring boyfriends, or the kids are bringing stepkids. There were three little kids there who I didn't recognize. Two belonged to the boyfriend(?) of one of the grandkids. I never did figure out who that other one was.

We did a white elephant exchange. The hostess put together a boatload of extra gifts. I brought a bag home for Cindy to open. Man, that was a bunch of crap. We got... a phone. A monogrammed (P) medallion, that attaches magnetically to a stepping stone (no idea how that's supposed to work), A votive holder that says "sister love" and a framed puppy and kitten picture. Now that one's a classic. It's this glowing metallic thing. It's got a very cheap gold chrome frame, and thin cardboard mat. It's probably from the seventies. It's definitely got potential.

My own prize from the exchange was a plush elephant bank that trumpets and lights up when you put money in it. Since I drew first, I was able to trade it for a pair of pink flamingos. My stepbrother says he drives by my house all the time, so I put them out where he could see them. I'll leave them up for a couple of weeks.

My dad entered the ugly sweater contest. He sewed gold stripping onto it that said, "Merry Christmas," and then put flashing lights on it. The youngest kids got to be the judges, and they decided his wasn't actually ugly. He was mad.

Cyn was feeling a lot better yesterday. I went to gaming. It was a late night. I've felt like I was fighting off illness all week, and I've had the usual sleep issues. They're probably worse due to not having a schedule. Cyn went back to work today. I'm still off.
