We took friday off work to go to my mom's family reunion in Indiana. We left after lunch on friday, and went to Lynda and Mike's. We hung out for a while, then went to dinner, then went to see Lynda's daughter in a play. She stole the show as the female lead in the musical version of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
We were up early the next morning to hit the road for the reunion. Got a bit of a late start, and people were finishing up with lunch by the time we got there. We had planned on a noon arrival, but the thing starts at 11:00. A few people were leaving as we got there (going to The Brickyard). But it was good to see and talk with most of them.
On the way down, it was 3-1/2 hours to Valpo, and 3 the rest of the way. On the way back, it was 5-2/3 hours. Cyn drove for a bit so I could nap.
On long trips like that, it's convenient to fall in behind someone and stay there for a long time. Or maybe someone will follow you. Or you might pass each other back and forth. I was hanging with someone for about an hour, leaving Indy. Coincidentally we stopped at the same gas station. It was a woman in a little gray car with Florida plates, and two medium sized dogs. After we left, I was thinking I should have gone over and said hi to her dogs (or asked if it was okay). About three hours later, as we were nearing Wisconsin I passed her. A little while later, when we were crawling along in construction traffic, I passed her again. She had the windows down, and the dogs were looking out. I think it would have been pretty funny to roll my car over, and say hi to the dogs again.
There was another car that was hanging with us in Wisconsin, that I saw again south of Chicago.
