it's all about the whisky
Apr. 20th, 2014 07:29 pmA week ago friday, my friend Doug had a whisky tasting. There were only five of us, but it was good. We all learned something, I think. Then Monday was the St.Andrew's tasting. We had the US brand Ambassador for Gordon & MacPhail come in from NYC to tell us about his company and the Scotch whisky independent bottling industry. I'm sure glad that one went well because I set it all up. It was all on my shoulders. The next night, a friend came over with an expensive bottle of Scotch. We hadn't talked in a while, so it was nice catching up.
Last night, a friend and I went to Chicago to shop for whisky and then drink whisky. There's a store chain in Chicago that has a really great selection of really great whisky. I dropped almost $650. Fortunately, very little of it was for my own consumption. Unfortunately, I won't get paid back soon for the rest of it. Then we walked over to Delilah's. It's one of the best whisky bars in the midwest. They have... over a hundred different Scotch whiskies? Two hundred? Not sure. Many of the bottles have been around a while and are quite rare. Delilah's is not what you'd call a high class place. Kind of a punkish place. Dark, loud music (Black Sabbath, The Specials) or old westerns on the TV. The bartenders remembered me. I guess they don't get many people down there from Wisconsin.
