It's been a warm summer. Everyone's been complaining about the heat, but it's hardly been above 90°. It's been consistently in the upper eighties for a couple of months now, but more importantly, it's been very humid. Sticky in the daytime, and downright damp in the morning and evening.

When it's cool at night (usually around 70°), we have the windows open and fans on, so the house cools down. We keep the house closed up all day. When we come home, the house is 82 or 83 inside, and stuffy, so we turn on the air conditioning. It only drops the temperature a degree or two, but it dries out the air, and the moving air feels better. We watch the thermometer outside, and when it cools off enough, we open the house up and let in the cool air - and, unfortunately, the dampness.

Today, we turned on the a/c in late afternoon. It was set for 80°. It took about three hours to drop from 83 to 80. After another three hours, it was still running sometimes, to keep it at 80. Then I realized it was down to 70 outside, so I opened the windows and turned the fans on. After only an hour, it had dropped two degrees. The house is a giant heat reservoir, and it takes a long time to cool it down. Running the fans all night only cools the air down to 76, which only takes a little temperature out of the house itself.
