new microwave and other house stuff
Mar. 30th, 2007 11:26 pmGot the microwave installed. I got some expanding anchors, tightened the screws to collapse them, then took the screws out and replaced them with shorter ones. I'm a freekin genius! But the thing annoys me. The light is so far back that the raised part on the back of the stove casts a shadow. And it's a lot lower than our old one was. I already had to duck to see the knobs on the stove. It's less than two inches above the top of the stove. Cyn joked that the stove wouldn't fit back in, and she was closer to the truth than I realized. I want a shorter oven. They don't make them. The bastards.
Still need to replace the toilet. It's got that chunk broken out of it near the handle. And the valve still leaks a little bit, anyway.
Still need to finish up the sump pump. I realized that the water softener discharges salt-laden water into the sump, so I need to go get a pump to keep in reserve for the next failure, and make sure it has as many stainless steel and plastic parts, so it doesn't rust to hell.
The dishwasher was making funny noises. The refrigerator doesn't seal well, and is probably pretty old. As are our washer and dryer. And we need some new furniture. That's probably going to have to wait a while.
Still waiting for Bill to finish the damn entertainment center. I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth, but he should have had it done two months ago. Our TV is perched way up on top of our old entertainment center.
We're having company for dinner tomorrow night. That means a lot of housecleaning. Mostly by Cyn, of course. I would have done more, but I was installing a microwave. And I'll be at work tomorrow. Not really where I want to be, but it's time and a half. And double on sunday. Maybe I'll do four or five hours on sunday. But I'm not going in early.
