The human papilloma virus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted disease in the United States; more than half of all Americans become infected at some point in their lives. The virus is also the primary cause of cervical cancer.

A ddrug comppany is trying to get approval for a vaccine for HPV. You'd think it would be a slam-dunk, considering the results of the testing, but apparently there is a big debate about this.

Here's what Leslee J. Unruh, the founder and president of the Abstinence Clearinghouse, had to say about a vaccine for HPV: "Premarital sex is dangerous, even deadly. Let's not encourage it by vaccinating ten-year-olds so they think they're safe."

This makes my head swim.

Here's more:
Reginald Finger says, "with any vaccine for H.I.V., disinhibition" - a medical term for the absence of fear - "would certainly be a factor, and it is something we will have to pay attention to with a great deal of care." Finger sits on the Centers for Disease Control's Immunization Committee. Are you scared yet? Please tell me if you think I've mistranslated his statement: "We want people to remain scared of having gay sex."

They're trying to put their futile efforts to prevent kids from having sex above a fucking vaccine for fucking cancer!

If they're going to go through with this, why don't go ahead they prohibit the use of medication on sexually transmitted diseases? I mean, it's one or the other, folks. Either you allow medication to be used for preventing disease, or you don't.

As someone said, it's a choice between sex and death, and they choose death every time.

We were supposed to get four inches of snow or more, but it was more like two. It was barely cold enough for snow, and it never did accumulate on the pavement - only the grass and such. So that was nice. No shoveling! And it's pretty.
