hit by a turkey
Feb. 20th, 2006 11:24 pmI'm sure half my friends list has heard this already, but by sister-in-law was in a bad accident. She was riding in the passenger seat of their semi, when they hit a wild turkey. It came through the windshield (the driver's side, I think) and hit her in the face. After they got pulled over, she made her way out of the truck and down to the ditch - how, I have no idea. They took her to the hospital in Orlando, by flight-for-life. Her facial bones were fractured, her cheek is torn up, and they're not sure if she'll be able to see out of that eye again. I forget what else - broken nose, concussion? Not good.
A surgeon put little metal plates in her face (eye socket?) She got attention from a plastic surgeon and an opthamologist last night.
This happened yesterday afternoon. They're letting her go tomorrow. She's staying down there for a week, in order to make follow-up visits with the doctors.
Devonne said with all the blood, she thought she lost her eye. If that were me, and I thought my eye had come out, I probably would have passed out on the spot.
The turkey ended up flapping around in the sleeper, and a passerby who stopped to help was dispatched to remove and dispatch it.
