wedding reception
Aug. 1st, 2004 11:05 pmI haven't been online since friday night, because I was either setting up the party, cleaning up after the party, or participating in the party.
I was working my ass off from 9:00 saturday morning, until well after the party started. I was pretty fried. I'm still trying to rehydrate from that. We emptied the truck, loaded a tent and tables into the truck, got another table, and a grill, and ddrove an hour to pick up the big tent, 15 more tables, and 120 chairs. Drove to my dad's, unloaded all said gear. Set up the big tent (my hand is still sore from the sledge hammer, and from carrying all those tables). Unloaded all the tables and chairs.
And that's just how it started. After that it was just miscellaneous stuff.
Today, we took down the tent, put the tables and everything back in the truck and drove it all back.
But the party was good. Really good.
The weather was good - hot, but breezy (and shaded). We had rain the day before, and storms the morning after.
The music was good (the one thing I can take credit for).
The food was good. My mom, and my stepmom made most of it. My sister made some. Cyn's friend from work helped by grilling the bratwurst. My stepsisters helped all evening, getting it ready.
The setting was good. My dad's house is really nice. He's got a great yard.
The people were good. We've got good friends and relatives. There were lots of kids there, and they were good too.
There were about 90 people and two dozen children. A few people had to leave early, but I appreciate their efforts to attend. I wish we'd gotten the food out a little earlier, for their sake. We had about twice as much food as we needed. Better safe than sorry, I thought, but it was a little too safe. We had the right amount of soda and water there, but three times as much alcoholic beverage as we needed.
I didn't get to spend as much time with everyone as I would have liked, but I guess that's pretty standard for this kind of thing. There were a couple of groups which I kept trying to head for, but kept getting distracted. Never got to talk much with them before they left.
So that's the basic story.
I'm going to bed. Tomorrow, I have to figure out where to store this beer.
