dad's help with drywall
Dec. 24th, 2003 12:34 amAfter getting behind on the plumbing yesterday, I decided to call for backup. My dad had offered to help, and it sounded like he really wanted to help, so I figured this would be a good time.
One of the problems I was having was that the bathtub was too far from the end walls. I wanted to shim the wall out, but I couldn't come up with a good way to do that. We decided that we could get some 3/8" plywood, and Home Depot could cut it into six pieces, which not only would fit on the wall, but fit in Cyn's car. So dad took care of that while I put up the insulation. Then we screwed the plywood to the walls. We had to do some tricky shimming on one wall - nothing was plumb or parallel.
With that done, we put the drywall up on the ceiling. Then the greenboard around the tub area. Dad was doing the cutting and measuring. Then after the two of us got the piece in place, I'd screw it up - I mean, screw it down, while he started on the next one.
It was nice to have him there. We really made up for lost time. He was pretty beat by late afternoon, though (I think he would have been in much better shape if he'd drunk some water). His arm has been bothering him lately.
Cyn was disappointed because she wasn't able to help much. We got her help as extra hands when working on the ceiling stuff, but in general, two people in the room is about it.
