no leaks!

It worked! Nothing leaks. I'm very relieved about that. Redoing the joints is very difficult once there's water in the lines. The only thing I haven't checked is the shower valve. I think it will be fine, but the elbow up at the top, where the showerhead is - the very last one I did - was a bitch and a half. I had to redo it, and I still don't think it worked. So we'll see on saturday, whether I'll have to try and fix that one.

Other than that, I didn't get a whole lot done. I did a tiny bit of framing work and tore up the floor a little bit. And bought the wrong hose for the toilet. Fortunately, I was able to salvage the old one, so it flushes again.

earlier start

I wanted to get up earlier than usual today. I set my alarm for 8:45. I also hoped for a phone call or two. Very suddenly I awoke. I opened my eyes and wondered what time it was. Before I could put on my glasses to look, the phone rang. I picked up the phone and saw that it was 8:30. It was a phone solicitor. I should have thanked him for waking me up, but I didn't.

I got a great antique postcard from ravengirl. Okay, it's not antique, but I bet it's older than I am. Okay, maybe not the card, but the picture is. It has all these cars from the sixties and fifties. It has those great old buildings with the balconies and iron railings. And wandering tourists. And looming in the foreground is a lamp post with its lamp askew. Very cool.

editing old entries

Have you ever tried to edit an old entry, and found it would not let you? And that entry had question marks in the place of certain symbols? Here's how to fix that:

First visit your Personal Info settings (http://www.livejournal.com/editinfo.bml). Scroll down to the bottom and choose your default text encoding - Western European.

Most native speakers of English who are Windows users should choose "Western European (Windows)" as their default encoding. Most native speakers of English who are Macintosh users should choose "Western European (ISO)".

Once you have done this, visit the UTF-8 Conversion Page (http://www.livejournal.com/utf8convert.bml). Select "Yes, mass-convert my information!"

That should cover it, unless you've got a highly customized journal, or have written in other languages.
