Happy Birthday Serendipity!

Cyn and I went flower shopping today. We went up to my favorite local garden center (Countryside Floral) and I got a white bleeding heart, a purple spiderwort and some purple petunias. After we got back and had put some of them in, I decided I needed some soil to fill in where I wanted to put the spiderwort. Instead of going back to Countryside I went to Shopko, because I figured the dirt would be cheap, and they'd have a different selection of flowers to look through. It turned out the flowers were in pretty bad shape (worse than usual). So I picked up the bag of topsoil and realized I didn't have any money with me. So I put the bag back down and realized it stunk - and now I did too. The bag didn't say it was manure, but it sure smelled like it - and fresh at that. So after I went home to get my money I went to countryside for the soil. It turned out that it was half the price. Not only that, but my money stayed local because I bought from a locally owned store. NOt only that, but my money stayed local, because the topsoil turned out to be made/packaged very near here. I tried going to Shopko, but all they had was shit.

I was up before 9:00 because I had to get my car's transmission fluid changed. So I did that. I mowed the lawn. I raked it. I even did the trimming, which I seldom do. I took some stuff over to my mom. I went to the bank. I picked up my photos (from camping). I got some things at the hardware store. I did two loads of laundry and Cyn hung them on the line for me (yay, solar clothes dryer!) and folded it for me. I got some flowers and we planted them.

So here's the story on the transmission fluid:
A couple of weeks ago, I took my car to one of those quick oil change places where they check everything. The guy told me that my transmission fluid was pretty burnt. He said he could change it for me, and it would cost $40. I thought that might be a bit steep so I passed. Today I took it to my usual mechanic, when I went to pick it up I learned that it cost me $100! $45 labor, $35 filter kit, $20 fluid, $2 environmental disposal fee, and tax. So with the filter kit added, it becomes a case of you-get-what-you-pay-for. But then, he tells me that the fluid looked fine. (I figured with over 100K miles, it probably did need changing.) So I guess the quick-change place guy was trying to scam me.
