memorial service notwithstanding. Flo had died the week before. She was 92. There was quite a turnout of friends and family in her memory, with many fond memories shared. I was reminded of her grace and her smile, and how she was at peace. Also of what a big basketball fan she was.

Cyn and I went to see Sixty Watt Sarah on Saturday night. Sarah has a very strong voice, and she could just belt it out. She and her band played a wide variety of music, from country to jazz psychedelic rock to blues. She played an acoustic guitar that had a nice ringing but deep tone. She had an accordion player. He often played a good zydeco rhythym, but usually he covered solos. I don't recall ever hearing a wah-wah pedal used with an accordion before.

We went CD shopping. I picked up a Violent Femmes tribute record (local artists), a compilation of the local punk scene, Signal Drift (a very nice electronic record), Squirrel Nut Zippers, Syd Barrett and a U2 thing.

When I got out of bed at Cyn's yesterday morning, it was snowing. Everything was nicely white. By mid-afternoon it was all gone. Then it was just cold. When I got home last night, I discovered that the snow was still on the ground up here. An inch of the powdery stuff, stuck to solid ice. Strange.

At the memorial service, a woman walked over to me. She smiled and said, "hi Kevin." I managed a smile and said, "hi." I wondered if this was Janey. She said, "I'm jane." I thought, okay, this is Janey. How did she know my name? What do I say to indicate that I know who she is, so I don't look like a complete idiot? How do I say it to not make her feel like an idiot for thinking I didn't know who she was? I should introduce Cindy. Meanwhile... the pause had grown too long, and it suddenly became time to simply move on. So we parted.

Wow, did I look like a fool.

I wanted to speak with her after the service, to try to redeem myself a little bit, but I never got an easy chance.
