Actually, we were on the phone. (She lives an eight hour drive away.)

And we spent three freaking hours on the phone!

the best time of year, IMHO, is late march, early april, when the wildflowers are in bloom. where exactly i am going to be is up in the air right now, so maybe we shouldn't make plans til after the first of the year, when my job situation is resolved.

Do people camp down there? I'd like to go camping, but I can't imagine doing it in the desert.

absolutely. there are innumerable places to camp under a vast expanse of stars.
