I wanted to buy a couple of black long-sleeved t-shirts. I went to Kohl's, but it's almost summer and their choice of long-sleeved shirts is limited. After I got home, I went to their website. I chose the department (men's), and then drilled down through all the filters. It narrowed my choices down to 44,000 items. What am I supposed to do with that?

I typed "mens long sleeve t-shirt" and then used the filters. That got it down to 7,000. Not much help, really. The last ones I bought were by Land's End, and they're quite good, so I filtered for that maker, and I found what I wanted.

There's something to be said for curating your product selection. Not to mention giving shoppers the tools they need to find what they want.

Signal to noise ratio is one problem. Choice paralysis is another.

The one I have most often is there are a couple dozen versions, all with slightly different features, and no basic version that actually meets my needs.

Or they all have one flaw in common, like how almost all women's T-shirts are crop length so that, if I raise my arms above my head, the hem barely covers my boobs. >_< I buy men's T-shirts or shop at a farm store.

Well, women's shorts would be too short and the fabric is often see-through.

I've seen men's jogging shorts that are mid-thigh, and some swim trunks (not board shorts) are opaque enough to work as everyday shorts.

However, it's probably easier to find long shorts that you like, cut off the excess length, and hem them. If you don't sew, there is iron-on hemming tape. With denim, though, you can just hack it off where desired and let it fray.

>> Hem them... hemming tape. I do not understand these words. <<

Iron-on hemming tape comes on a spool. You put it on the raw edge of fabric, fold the hem, and instead of sewing you iron it. The tape melts and fuses the fabric together. There are various brands and styles, so look at the descriptions to find something suited to your fabric. Many people find this easier than sewing.
