My dad called last night and left a message. He is supposed to get the sign up for the gallery. He was supposed to have it weeks ago, but the guy who is making it is a liar. "Oh yeah, I've got it done. I just want to touch something up. I'll be there with it on Tuesday at 7:00." Turns out he didn't even have the base done, let alone the lettering. *Two weeks later* it was determined that he couldn't afford to buy gold leaf.

Anyway, dad is stressing about it way more than necessary. I know he's not happy that he has been open for almost two months and has no sign, and he's not happy about being lied to ALL THE FREAKING TIME, but come on. It's just a sign!

I'm supposed to help put it up today. His message last night was to tell me that he didn't know when he'd call me, because he couldn't trust the guy to show up when he says. He just kept going on about how this was all up in the air, and he didn't know when he'd call me to tell me to come over. So what?! I'm here at work. I can come over anytime he calls. It dosn't matter! And it's not like my dad has nothing to do while he's waiting for the guy. So who the hell cares if he comes at 10:00 or 3:00?

Why do people get so upset about this stuff?

Sounds like your pop has a perfectionist streak? (Nothing wrong with it, but it explains the freakout.)

And he's probably annoyed as hell that this sign-painter guy can't deliver the goods. Ya want me to whack him? I'll give him gold foil, better belive it...I'll foil his cement loafers!!! he can admire them all the way to the bottom!!! That's it!!!

He's so stressed out about the whole thing, that I can't even ask him about it.

I think he's trying to cut his losses in money and/or time. He doesn't want to start over. He's bought some of the gold leaf. He's even been helping the guy. ("You're pretty good at this. We should form a partnership." "I'd go along with that if you were, in any way, reliable!")

is there some reason he has to have the sign right now? how about if he has a temporary one made cheaply at a sign shop?

He had a paper one in the window. He's been waiting for two months. The only way he got the sign at all was by taking charge. So he was making sure it got done, and that's where the stress came in. I'll see if I can get the whole story, and find out why he couldn't just tell the guy to take a hike, and cut his losses.
