On Saturday was our Christmas gathering with my dad & stepmom, and my sister and her family. We hosted, this year. It was our first time for doing it this way with that side of the family, and it felt like our first time hosting a dinner like this.
We made ham, cheesy potatoes, glazed carrots, salad my sister brought rolls, and my stepmother brought a dessert. It turned out well, but it was a little hectic cooking our few items. There was a bit of a crisis when it wouldn't fit in the crockpot because the bone stuck up too high. Cyn kept pushing down on the lid, but bones don't squish. So we put it in a roasting pan in the oven. Then I had to make the potatoes. The recipe says there's 20 minutes of prep time, but not only had I not made this dish before, but I'm not real familiar with most of the processes. Like how to use the food processor. So prep took about 50 minutes. And then the potatoes were supposed to cook at a much higher temp then the ham, so we took it out of the oven after half an hour, and put it in the crockpot with aluminum foil over the top. But everything turned out well and on time. Everyone seemed to enjoy it.
Then we opened presents. The presents were all from or to my dad and stepmom. The rest of us will exchange presents tomorrow. Between my dad and I there were four new bottles of whisky. But then a little after 1 am, Cyn woke up and realized we hadn't given my stepmom her gift. So the next day we had to drive out and deliver it.
Today we did a little last-minute shopping. Groceries, a gift certificate and a snow shovel for my mom. Isn't that exciting.
Cyn's daughter Heather and her husband Greg arrived around 5:00. We sat and talked for a while, and then we watch 2 Stupid Dogs for a while. :-)
Then I turned around and discovered everyone had gone to bed. I guess I'll read for a few hours.
Tomorrow is Christmas morning here. We go to Cyn's sister's in the afternoon, then my sister's for dinner in the evening. My mom will be there and we'll exchange presents. And then Christmas will be over and Cyn will go back to work on Wednesday. ;-)
