Saturday morning we saw The Shape of Water. I liked it.

Then I drove to Chicago. I stopped at four stores and bought $1600 of whisky. That sounds like a lot, but I had a 15%-off coupon... so it's actually more than that. It was all for whisky tastings I'm doing, or for some friends. I hadn't planned on getting any for myself, but I saw a cute half-bottle, so I picked it up.

It was precipitating, so that made of kind of a long drive. There was snow before I left. Then mist, and as the temperature dropped it became snow, before quitting. In Chicago the sidewalks were covered with icy slush which turned to just plain ice.

Down there, I met Brenda. I picked her up and took her with me to a couple of whisky stores, then we had dinner, followed by whisky. There are some good whisky bars down there, and I always like to visit one. Usually Delilah's, but this time I decided to visit The Duke of Perth. Nice place. Cozy pub, good Scotch selection.

I got home at 1:00 am.

Today I spent a while totaling up my whisky purchases and letting people know how much they owe me. Then visited the Fermentorium for a beer before gaming.

So glad you got to see Brenda!

But ew, Chicago is just as I remember it. Although I visited during different seasons, what sticks in my mind is the time my mom and I got stuck in a blizzard and had trouble hailing a cab outside of Marshall Field's.

It wasn't horrible, just annoying. I saw one person fall. On the other hand, they didn't salt, so that's a plus for the environment.

I miss Marshall Field's, even in bad weather.

I miss Marshall Field's too-- it's a stupid Macy's and now, they're suffering, so who knows what's next. I do comfort myself with those Tiffany windows, tho.

Now I’m craving Frango mints.

Except for the snow/ice it sounds like a good time. Are the whisky bars you like downtown or further out?

They're in the city. Around Lakeview neighborhood, if that shows up on a search. Diversey Street.

There are very few movies advertised that I think I would like to see, but shape of water is one of the few.

If you think you'll like it, you'll like it. I'm not sure how you are with violence, but there is a little bit of that. That probably wasn't in the ads.

I DO have a lot of trouble with violence in modern films, particularly graphic - so if I hit a patch that I cannot handle, I don't watch the rest of the film. It is kind of weird, for example: Of the marvel movies I have seen (all old) that kind of violence does not bother me, it does not seem real, but I have never been able to watch the Da Vinci Code, because early on there is a scene where it looks like a guy is about to cut his leg off with a tourniquet like device. I cannot watch that sort of thing. I am not sure if it is the actual act, or the compulsion of doing it because someone told him to, but whatever it is, THAT kind of thing sets off my PTSD.

There's a guy that gets shot, painfully, and then somebody else is messing with him. If this worries you, I can give you more details.

I think it's just this one scene that's bad, so I would think that you could close your eyes, because you could tell when the scene was over.

Actually, a heads up helps. My daughter knows my issues pretty well, and she tells me if a movie is something I can't handle, or scenes I need to avoid watching. From what you have said, it does not raise red flags in me.

I hate to give away too much of a film, but... this guy loses his fingers and gets them sewn back on. But it doesn't go well, and they start to rot. When they get really bad he pulls them off. That sounds more like something you have a problem with?

Yeah... that will do it.

I really want to see that film. Sorry I missed the Guillermo del Toro exhibit in Minneapolis.

That would have been cool.

Have you found something to help your throat? Maybe not something for during a tasting but after, due to the interference with taste.

I'm on a higher dose of Omeprazole. The throat is better, but not 100%.

I haen't noticed a problem with taste.

Cool. It’s nice when meds don’t have annoying side effects.
