I've been trying to cut down on the whisky.

Last Wednesday I went to Chicago to pick up a bottle for an upcoming tasting. As long as I was down there, I stopped at my favorite whisky bar to have a few.

Thursday, I happened to be in the area of The Palm Tavern, so I stopped in to say hi and have a wee dram.

Friday I was out at my dad's, and we had a couple.

Last night I visited Doug, and had more than a couple.

Last week was Kilby's birthday, and he got a really nice bottle (Bruichladdich 34-year), so he invited me over tonight. (He didn't tell me that he also invited Chris, Collin and Bryson.) So we had a few.

Maybe I won't have any more whisky between now and next Wednesday's club meeting.

Did I mention I've been trying to cut down on the whisky?

LOL

You just like whisky so much that all your resolve melts in the face of a wee dram or 10.
;)

so how much would you have had if you weren't trying to cut down????

I'm cutting down because the whisky is exacerbating my throat. The acid reflux is causing it to burn, and the whisky doesn't help. I used to have a small glass in the evening, but I can't do that anymore. So I quit drinking in the evening, and kinda resolved to do only "events." I would therefore be drinking less often. Once a week, at most? Hopefully twice a month? But events kinda piled up this past week.

I should have skipped last Thursday at The Palm. But that still left the Delilah's outing, followed by four nights of "hey, you gotta try this new whisky!"

So I need to work on this a little harder, I guess.

But in answer to your question, I would have had the same amount. I simply failed to cut down. Oh, that night at The Palm, I only had one. I would have had more that night.

Delilah's was planned in advance. I only get there a couple of times a year, if I'm lucky.

After that, it was all a matter of people having new whiskies that they wanted to share. And I wanted to try those new whiskies. That's always a big draw.

See below for why I'm cutting down, and how I intend to do so. It's more about drinking less often, than having fewer drinks.

I have had to do the same with caffeinated tea, and then coffee, but not for the throat. With the tea it started with the tannin, and my stomach could not handle it, then with coffee it was too much caffeine, so I have to limit it to one large cup per day, and eat some kind of protein with it.

I cut down on wine and alcohol in general because I was using it as a crutch, using it to avoid my anger at my family. I realized I was never going to get past what they had done, and my father's death unless I let my self be angry. That has worked, and I don't really feel the need to go back to having alcohol around all the time now. Of course money is a big part of that too. *grin *
