It finally warmed up last week. When we left for New York, there were only a couple of tulips that were starting to open. When we got back, most of them had opened, plus some irises, jacks-in-the-pulpit, and a few more.

These tulips are a little bit past their prime.

I really like that variety! Mine are just the old-fashioned kind; not multiple-petaled.

Wow! I need to google multi petaled tulips so I can see what they look like after just blooming. I didn't know there was such a thing! They are beautiful even when they are past their prime.

Heidi put a "rock garden" over her flower bed but must not have taken her bulbs out. I think she thought the material over the dirt and then the rocks would stop the flowers and I would have thought the same thing but nope. Even the Hostas are coming up a little through it all.

You mean she just covered it with gravel? No, that won't stop big plants, or even most smaller plants. Persistent ones will find a way. You have to put weed barrier cloth down, and also dig some of them out first.

It isn't gravel but they aren't large stones. She did have them put the weed barrier down. I think Tulips and daffodils must be very hardy and tenacious. She should have taken out the bulbs.
