microwave oven

Sixteen months after spending just over $100 to repair our microwave oven, it quit on us again. That's probably the same value per year as a new one, but I wasn't going to fix it again. Picked up the new one tonight, and installed it.

I didn't want to get the same kind as last time, since it broke (twice), but I also didn't want to drill a bunch of new holes in the wall and cabinet. We got pretty much same model as last time (though updated). A GE.

I've never had a microwave stop working. I figured they were like tvs where they just last forever. My microwave won't show the numbers ticking off fully anymore but thankfully still works fine. Do you remember when people first started having them in their homes and how expensive they were? I'm glad it's not like that anymore.

We have had two microwaves stop working. I think that they were different brands but not GE. Enjoy your new appliance!

Our first microwave lasted for 20 years. They don't build them like they used to...and yes, I sound like my parents when I say that.
I hope the new one lasts longer!

I lost all faith in GE about five years ago. I have never had any appliance of theirs last as long as compatible appliances. I swear you can't get a decently priced long lasting appliance since Montgomery Wards went out of business. That being said, I hope your microwave lasts and lasts.

This one lasted six or seven years, with one keypad replacement. Doesn't seem long enough.

Seems like they're still priced about what they used to be. But back in the 80's, that was a lot more money.

Or if you're talking the 60's or 70's, no, I don't remember that. Nobody I knew had them back then.

How long did yours last? This one was six or seven years old. This is the second installation I've done since moving in there, but the first one was here when we moved in, so I don't know how old it was.

My first one was a little cheapie, and it lasted ten years before we gave it away.

No, it doesn't. Our first microwave was still going strong 20 years after we purchased it. I gave it to the ex because it was so large, and I wanted a smaller one. They have never lasted more than three years. That old large one had changeable fuses. The one I have now I bought ... at lowes three years ago because it was cheap. The coating on the key pad has come off, and the popcorn setting does not work, but I can still use it.

I was thinking about them in the late 70's and early 80's. Before that mostly just restaurants had them. I remember some people didn't trust microwaves and worried they were dangerous.
