The weather was almost perfect tonight, as the sun was going down. Warm and calm, but humid. I sat on the patio and read a magazine.

It was noisy. The air conditioning unit was going nonstop, nearby, and a nearby dog was barking nonstop. Aggravating. The next-door neighbors' dogs are finally getting better about barking (partly through getting used to us, partly through training), but they never just stood and barked continuously for an hour at a time.

Aside from the noise, it was really nice out.

I have heard that when dogs bark continuously like that it is because they are hungry. The owners are probably not at home. A long-ago friend of mine said he had a neighbor dog that was left outside sometimes and barked constantly (especially at night). To get some sleep, he went out and threw a steak over the fence. The barking stopped :-)

I think this constant barking is a new, youngish dog. Their previous dog never barked. Both golden retrievers. The barking goes on for long periods of time, and at different times. Very often it's between midnight and 1 am. I don't know how you can ignore your own dog barking for an hour at a time. I don't think I can get near enough to it to feed it.
