Friday afternoon, the boss let me go home half an hour early. I'm pretty sure nobody has ever told me that before.

Later that evening, Cindy and I went over to the new winery on the corner. At the moment, they're buying and bottling wine from a place in California. In the fall, they will be buying grapes, and making their own wine. They have a nice little store in an old schoolhouse that they've fixed up. They put in a vineyard on their north acre, and expect to make wine from their own grapes in two or three years.

Right now they have three white and three red offerings. I didn't much like two of the reds, but the Malbec was okay. Of the whites, the Viognier was okay, and preferable to the other two. We bought a couple of glasses, and sat outside enjoying the perfect weather. A couple who had come up from Whitefish Bay sat near us, and we chatted for a good hour.

Saturday and today I spent a lot of time working on the gardens. I went through every inch and weeded, and pulled out the dead stuff, and generally attended to their needs. I still have one more day of the weekend, but I'm not going to get all my hoped-for projects done.

Last night, we went to some friends' house for a party, and to watch the fireworks. It wasn't our customary spot nearly underneath the village's fireworks, but we were close enough to have a good view anyway. And hang out with some people, and drink a glass of Scotch, or whathaveyou. And after the community's fireworks, Mike and friends set off their own. They bought a good six hundred dollars worth. It was a good show too, for a backyard thing.

Tonight, we went to see the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Dumb fun.

Did the whathaveyou include mojitos?

Maybe i should just give up on the battle against the grapevine, let it take over the driveway, and start my own home winery. With Rob's tools taking over the garage, my car is about to be relegated to the street anyway.

I could have an annual wine-stomping party, wouldn't that be fun?

Wait, why are you both leaning to your left sides? Are you enjoying the wine, or making a political statement?

Goodness! How many glasses had Cyn had? *Kidding!* She looks so cute and happy.

It mostly consisted of a card table with, let's see... rum, tequila, whisky, vodka, gin and a bunch of Scotch. And sparklers. Also coolers of beer and soda. so if you can make a mojito with rum and Sprite, then yes. Otherwise, no.

Grape stomping, or grapevine stomping? ;-)

I always lean left. It keeps my drinking hand free.

I suppose you could try to make a mojito with rum and Sprite, but it wouldn't be a very GOOD one. :P

And, sure, friends are welcome to stomp grapes and/or grapevines (all of which will return victorious the following year regardless of said stomping).

You should be able to find the source of the vines. Unlike some other pests, they should only have roots in one or two spots. And since they're vines, you can follow them to their source.

Do the grapes taste okay? The ones I had at the duplex were very tart.

Oh, I know exactly where they're rooted. I just wish they wouldn't grow so much from them there roots! And, yes, the grapes are wonderfully sweet when ready to eat - I think usually in September. There are just too many of them. Sometimes someone will give us small jars of grape jelly made with our grapes. Maybe I'll take the time to make some this year... Or I could use some leaves to make dolmades as a neighbor did, but they might be too bitter for me.

You have perfected that look, Kevin.
:D
I hope the winery does well. It's a nice addition to the neighbourhood.

It sounds like a very good weekend and I hope the last day is good, too. Happy 4th!
