I went out hunting a pair of great blue herons, and found a little brown owl.

This drowsy little guy didn't seem to be too upset by my presence, but I didn't make any sudden moves, and I didn't get very close (12 to 15 feet?). He was gone about half an hour later, when I took Cyn over to see him. He's less than a foot long, from tip to tip.

What a darling little owl! Great picture, too.

I've never really seen one in person before, so I was pretty excited to see one up close like this.

That is just a fantastic thing for you to be able to see and take a great photo!

What's he perched on?

Wow Kevin! Great photo! Did you take that at night?

A chunk of concrete that fell from the silos. It's very damp and shady there, so it's very green.

No, it was a little after 1:00 this afternoon. That's why he's so sleepy, I guess.

What a cutie! I wonder if he's a young one.

You went looking for OUR herons! When the second one arrived it seemed to go after the first one.

That little owl is really cute and sleepy. He almost looks like a wood carving! Great shot!

He does look a little like a wood carving--or possibly an ivory carving.
That picture just begs to be framed. It could be a Mensa ID picture.

I thought s/he might be, but after research, I think that's full size.

The herons headed into the trees, so after you left, I grabbed my camera and went in that direction. I saw one fly out from behind the barn, do a u-turn, and go back, but I never saw them after that.
