As usual, I didn't get a very early start on the shed. I took a couple of trips to the store. still did some standing and staring. I don't think I did any actual cutting until around 3:00.

I enacted my plan of using the two-foot strips of plywood. It's working pretty well so far. There's a larger gap at the top of the strips than I'd prefer, but as long as no roofing nails hit it (or that I notice if they do), I should be fine. And I haven't taken out the big sheet yet.

Here's the south side (back) of the shed. There are three lighter sheets on the roof, towards the right side. Those are fine. The third sheet from the left has a dark spot on it. That one's really disintegrated below the spot. It needs six feet of it replaced, while the other sheets only need the bottom two feet replaced. I took care of four of the five sheets. I can't do the end one until I fix the fascia boards on the side edges of the roof.

Tomorrow, I have to replace the bottoms of all eight sheets on the other side of the shed. I'll start with that. Then I'll replace the fascia boards on the sides of the roof. Then I'll replace the fascia boards on the lower edges. Somewhere in there I have to finish the tear-off of the north side. Once all that's done, I put up tar paper. If all goes well, I get all that done by the time it gets dark. At a later date (hopefully not too much later), I put up the gutters, and put on the shingles.

Cyn has been painting the boards that I will put up tomorrow. Then they'll only need touching up after installation.

Today was rough. I had a plan, but I hate repair work. Cutting out old pieces, and nailing new ones sucks. Nothing is simple to cut, when it's already nailed in place. The joists themselves were kinda rotted, and worse - they were not in the right place to nail the fascias to. This meant I had to nail short pieces in alongside the existing joists. I had to figure out how to figure out where the ends of them should be, so the fascias end up straight. We'll see how that turns out. One reason I haven't torn the shingles off of the north face, is that they're my only path to the top of the roof. The bare plywood is too slippery. Without shingles, I'd have to nail some strips down. Oh, and I have to figure out how to get those end fascias down, and the new ones up. I can't lean the tall ladder up against them, and still tear them off. And the stepladder isn't tall enough.

And then there were the wasps. They didn't bother me much yesterday, but today, with all the new openings, they seemed to get more curious. There were several in sight at any time, by late afternoon. They don't normally bother me, but I know they get pretty pissed off if you mess with their homes. I never knew if they were flying out from under the plywood I was working on because they were pissed, or if they just decided to move on. I had to take a wasp break, and do tear-off on the other side. By the time I got back there, it had cooled off, and they had all gone away. But when I took off the last sheet, I found a small swarm underneath. I sent Cyn to the store for some wasp spray. I don't normally like to use such chemicals, but I wasn't done tearing apart their home. The can was defective, and toxic fluids bubbled out all over my hand and everything. I guess I deserved it.

And then, since it was well after dark, I went to the store and bought gutters.

If you come out of this project, with all of your fingers and not one trip to the emergency room, i'll be happy.
That roof truly is rotted.
Good luck.

But!
Does he have ten toes and a nose?

His shoes aren't bloody, so I think we're ok there. And he came in to eat dinner, still sporting a nose.
