The other night, just after a rain, I noticed the light was good, so grabbed my camera and went out to get some shots of my purple coneflowers.

After I got a couple, a small dragonfly landed.

Tonight, I went out to pick raspberries, and noticed this one resting on a leaf.

I like how the spiderweb of the leaf it's sitting on parallels the wings. And underneath that leaf is a raspberry, in case you wondered how big the dragonfly is. Very small.

This is bee balm. For those of you who saw my previous picture of it, and wondered what it would look like when it was fully blooming, this is it.

That's not coneflowers, silly! That's ECHINACEA! That stuff is very good for you if you make tea out of it when you have a cold or flu. Ask [personal profile] serendipity. Expensive, too, if you buy it in the store. Can you dry some of it and put it in a zip lock bag? I have some growing outside, too.

My upstairs neighbor has bee balm growing in her flower patch by the garage. I LOVE it. That last picture of yours is a real keeper.

Yes they are, silly! :-)

Echinacea (pronounced /ˌɛkɨˈneɪʃ(iː)ə/)[1] is a genus of nine species of herbaceous plants in the family Asteraceae commonly called Coneflower.

Dry some of what part?

There are tons of types and colors. Around here, there's a common one that has black bars on the wings. Usually, I can get near, but not really close. This one on the raspberries seemed like it had gone to sleep for the evening.

Thanks. I saw some lavender bee balm in the wild at the park last weekend.

:) Yep... like Kev has down there, Echincacea Purpura is "the western coneflower". They come in all kinds of colors and even "doubles" now. I've managed to get a handful of them to sprout. There are purples and yellow/orange blooming right now in my front yard, and I'm just waiting for a bunch more to sprout and bloom.

Very nice flowers - and pictures.

:) So.. That's what Bee Balm looks like! I've wondered what that was that I did so poorly at growing!

No really. What part am I supposed to dry?

Oh, sorry. I forgot to answer.

The flowers. I also read somewhere that you can make a tincture out of the roots. I'll have to look that up again.
