Facebook's kind of an odd place. It started out as a place for networking. And even though I only joined a year or so ago, it still seems like that sort of place. I figured it would be a good place to have my identity online so that if anyone really wanted to reach me, they could.

And I've been looking for people there lately. I checked the people who went to my high school for several years before and after I graduated, and found none. I knew my own class was pretty apathetic, but I figured I'd see somebody I recognized. then I searched the neighboring town, looking for some people I went to church with. Found three. Then I looked for one specific person - a girl I had a crush on. Didn't find her, but I found her mother. Her mother's contacts included her son, and another guy I used to know, and have been wondering about.

But not one of these people had a public profile. I don't think I want to start a conversation with any of them, so I don't want to send a message, but I was hoping for a few general details. Like, "where you at, these days?"

I've had an account there for ages. I'd have added you had I known you were there :D

You can find me under the name Lonita Fraser (of course). I can't seem to find you.

Half my friends list is there. I haven't added many of them, though, because I see you all here. That, and I don't really go there much. And I don't find Facebook very interesting. And I don't really need another place to spend my time. But I have been looking there lately.

I wish I could remember when I created the account. A year and a half ago, maybe? For the longest time, my only contact was a former LJer. If anyone adds me, I add them back. So keep looking. ;-)

It's funny, when I searched your first name, you were at the top of the third page of results. Then I searched my name and town. I was on the bottom of the first page. So I searched your name and city, and you didn't show up at all. then I searched your first name again, and you were gone.

Huh. Weird. I just searched myself. Try lonita fraser again. My picture is a black and white thing, no photo. It's of my tattoo.

Yeah, I saw it before, then it vanished.

I find Facebook to be an odd venue also.

It's taking me a while to figure out how to use it, and how to best use it. I don't want to abandon it, but I'm thinking its best use is just to have it.

I've been holding out on facebook, since I already have myspace. It's freaky finding people from high school! I found my best friend from my last two years of high school, Melinda, and contacted her. Even though her likes were all Led Zep and stuff from when I knew her, she'd gone hardcore right-wing republican and now, if I dare write anything political, I get this unwanted feedback about I voted for the guy who kills babies and stuff. So, I'm not sure I want to find too many other people from my past!

The one person I found today who I considered contacting, was one of my closest friends in high school. He's a conservative libertarian (and a musician). I noticed he's a member of the "global warming is a farce you fucking hippy!" group. He prefers MySpace, though, and I don't really do politics in Facebook, so we're probably okay.

I try to keep LJ separate from my RL friends. I keep politics out of my "public" online places, because about half my friends and family are conservative. Fortunately, none of them are so hardcore they hassle me about it without provocation.

That's funny, I just posted about a group I joined on Facebook.
I pretty much only go there to see what all those people from high school are up to. (not a whole lot, really)
It's annoying that to see some people's profiles, you have to add them as a friend...I guess I'm just nosy but don't want to interact with them :)

Yeah. I can see why people would want their profiles private, but it's still annoying. I wish they'd at least make their cities or something public, so I know if they're the ones I'm looking for.

I agree and since lots of people are on it it may be a way to meet new people also.
