I went back to the park today for more pictures of the ice. I got there early enough that the sun was on the beach.

These next two are from last night.

When the water slowly rose, as the waves came in, it forced air through the ice under this arch. There was a quiet hissing or whooshing sound, followed by a low-frequency whump.

There was a lot more ice on the water, due to last night's below-zero temps.

Today, I took a walk on a trail up the creek, into the hills. Despite its well-used appearance, I think it gets more traffic of deer than people.

Today's journal is all about the crystals, it seems.

Did I mention it was cold? The temperature got up to 10° by the time I left. I was out there for well over an hour.

Here's one to compare to yesterday's shot.

I had a little trouble speaking, by the end of the visit. My lips were somewhat numb.

I love the blue cast from the reflected sky and the first one looks like a frozen wave!
It's been well over 35 years since I last walked on a frozen Lake Michigan beach.
It's gorgeous...all of it.

The song Aqualung came to mind when I saw the ice on your beard.
That "wing" with the sun shining through is beautiful.
And how come "lily pad" ice forms, do you think? Those round chunks?

You could hear him moaning...

The air caught under the ice, as the waves went in and out, made noises.
