They said we'd see four-dollar gas by the summer. I wonder if it will it five. Gas is $3.99 here, and higher in the city. I filled up at $3.89, on monday, and broke $50 for the first time. $51.62. And the tank wasn't even on empty like it sometimes is.

yah. It broke the $4 mark here a couple weeks ago, same for up north.

2 weeks ago, at the rental car counter, hertz was charging $3.19 in Dallas.

We put in $25 in the Prius for the first time. This is getting ridiculous!

Happy Birthday Kevin!

There are definitely advantages to motorcycles. How far does that get you?

Thank you Dave!
Depends on how I ride, and how much I've had to eat. I have a six gallon tank (usually hits reserve after 4.5), and I average 45-50mpg. Back when I was doing more highway riding and weighed less, I regularly averaged 50+. My bike has a 650cc engine; I know folks with 250s who regularly average 70+. To say nothing of smaller bikes and scooters.

Really, for most folks, there's no reason to haul around several tons of steel and air. I like to count the number of people actually using more than one seat in their daily commute and the numbers are very low. You can still own a weekend grocery getter while riding a bike during the week. Better for traffic, does less damage to the roads, and better fuel economy. The fuel savings alone can fund the purchase of a small, used 250-650cc motorcycle and reasonable amounts of safety gear.

As someone who used to ride to work in a suit (rain or shine), I have little patience for people who find excuses why they need a car to drive by themselves to work.

Off topic. Happy birthday, according to LJ. How does it feel to be 25?

Assuming google's sums are good, it's about $8 here: http://www.google.com/search?q=1.10+gbp+per+litre+in+usd+per+us+gallon

Anyway, happy birthday!

Actually, I didn't much care for 25. I'm much happier now. The body's showing the early signs of decrepitiude, but you can't have everything.

Thanks!
I couldn't ride in the cold. I can't take the cold. The rain isn't as bad, but I would still hate that too. The car is so convenient. I don't have to suit up to drive to work. Or figure out where to put my gear, at work. I had my motorcycle temps, once.

That *shouldn't* be an excuse, though.

I only have a two-mile commute. I should ride a bicycle to work. But again, there's rain and cold. And figuring out what to do with it when I get there. I have a Honda Spree scooter, that I should get running. But I hear the two-cycle engines put out more pollution than cars do. I've been thinking about this for years, and never taken any action. *sigh*

Thank you!

$8 is twice as much as it is here. It seems like it used to be a lot more expensive than ours. Has yours gone up at the same rate as ours, resulting in a smaller difference, percentagewise? Or is ours just going up faster than yours?

Don't know the answer to to either of those questions, I'm afraid.
