not all soldiers are in support of the war

A coworker says he was out in a bar with a staunchly conservative friend last weekend. There were some uniformed Marines there, and his friend bouight them beers and did all the flag waving and praise for them doing their job and protecting our freedom and fighting in Iraq. He almost got his ass kicked. My coworker says that a couple of the Marines had to hold one of their buddies back.

Yep. Just because they go an do their job.. doesn't mean they like where it takes them, or support the politics of the $%(&*#$ that sends them there.

The mark of a true soldier is that he will do all he can to avoid war, but go to it in the case where it's inevitable.

I think there are a number of politicians who don't understand this.

I'd probably still offer to buy them a beer, but not for upholding their end of the war, more for taking on a job no-one should have to.

When I was in ROTC, I was on a rifle drill team that traveled to New Orleans and marched in one of the Mardi Gras parades every year. You would not believe the grief we were given for wearing a uniform. Some was mild like sliding strands of beads down the rifle barrels to keep us from doing our manuevers, but a lot of people were downright violent towards us warmongers.
