Al the somewhat modern windows I've seen, you just remove the trim molding on the inside, then they're screwed to the house sideways through their frames.
If youi've got an older house wiht older windows, that would be a different story. I had to pry molding off just to get the sashes out, and then take the storms and screens out and lean outside to remove the screws from the storms' frames to get the frames off. *Then* my new windows fit in nicely.
