I had the alarm set for 5:45, to make my 8am flight on Monday. Got there in good time, not too early. But I hadn't gotten to sleep until about 2 am, so it was a rough day. I got in to Washington DC around noon. Got my car and drove over the river to the city.

I parked (for free) near the Lincoln Memorial, so I walked up there, and then up and down The Mall. I saw the Washington Monument, the National Art Gallery ( sculpture garden, then the East Building, modern art, and then an exhibit on Dorothea Lang in the main building). Then I walked back west, took a detour up to the road, where I didn't realize I could see the White House. I went down to the Vietnam War Memorial. Then I walked up to a place for dinner. Then back down, and saw the Korean War memorial. I walked a bit over six miles, not counting the indoor miles.

Then I drove about an hour and a half, across the Chesapeake, to the town where our plant is. I met my boss there the next morning. I got a tour of the plant, met some people, and the boss gave me a project. I spent two days there. Stayed at a fancy resort. Didn't sleep well. I was dead the whole week.

Wednesday night I drove back to the city. It's awesome when you're driving by yourself in an unfamiliar city in rush hour, and your Google navigator goes out. It was a little rough, but I made it to the hotel. I walked about fifteen minutes up to the legendary Jack Rose Dining Saloon, and partook of their whisky collection. I slept OK that night, but was still running a sleep deficit.

Thursday I checked out and drove a few blocks to find a new place to park. I walked to the National Portrait gallery, then down to the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum. On my way east toward the Capitol, I got some food from a truck. I walked by the front of the Capitol, then back into downtown. I had to kill some time before visiting Allegory, a fancy bar. I had a non-alcoholic cocktail, and then went back to my car, and the airport.

They changed our gate four times, but apparently rushed to get the plane in the air, because we left only fifteen minutes late, and arrived the same time as the original plan.

It was a long week. I'm still recovering.
